How accurate/reliable are findings of a polygraph .y cannot it be used to interrogate corrupt politicians?

How would a polygraph work on a politician that thinks what we might consider corrupt as just doing normal political business. Many present office holders don't even know the Constitution or bother to read the bills they vote on.
