Other than Trojan wars, what else did Achilles accomplished?

I mean, the most famous of his legends is the Trojan war, but at that time Achilles was already known and was awesome. How did he acquire that fame? Other than his skills in combat, did he kill someone great other than Hector? Did he faced "the gods" like Hercules or something like that?
